Easy Minion Hat

Easy Minion Hat

This may not be the best minion ever. It may not even look perfectly like a minion. BUT, it is an easy one to make!

 

Materials:

Simply Soft yarn. Colors: Yellow, Blue, Dark Blue or Black, White. (Left over yarn works great)

Hook: 4 ½ mm

Sewing needle and thread

Yarn needle.

 

Size: newborn

 

Hat:

Begin with YELLOW: 4 ch. Ss into the 4th ch from hook to make a ring.

Row 1: 2ch, 12dc into a ring, ss into the 1st dc. (12dc)

Row 2: 2ch, 2dc into each dc around, ss into the 1st dc. (24 dc)

Row 3: 2ch, [2dc into 1st dc, 1dc into next dc] repeat 12 times around, ss into the 1st dc.(36 dc)

Row 4: 2ch, [2dc into the 1st dc, 1 dc into next dc, 1 dc into next dc] repeat 12 times around, ss into the 1st dc. (48 dc)

Row 5 – 8: 2ch, 48 dc around, ss into the 1st dc. (48dc)

Row 9: Switch to a BLUE thread. Repeat row 5. Finish off. Weave in the ends.

 

Earflaps:

In BLUE: Turn hat upside down facing seam. Count 6 stitches to the left from the seam

Row 1: Make ch into the 6th stitch. Make 1 more chain. 10 dc along the side of the hat in the same direction. (11 stitches = 10dc + 2ch)

Row 2: 2ch. Turn. 2dc together, 6 6dc, 2 dc together. (8 stitches)

Row 3: 2ch. Turn. 2dc together, 4 dc, 2 dc tog. (6 sts)

Row 4: 2ch. Turn. 2dc tog, 2 dc, 2 dc tog. (4 sts)

Row 5: 2ch. Turn. 2 dc tog, 2dc tog. (2 sts) Finish off. Weave in the ends.

Holding hat upside down, count 14 stitches from this ear flap to the left. Ch into 15th stitch, another ch, 10 dc along the side of the hat in the same direction. (2ch+10dc = 11stitches).

Row 1-5: same as earflap above. Finish off. Weave in the ends.

Print

White Eyes Part (make two):

In WHITE: 4ch, ss into the 4th ch from hook to make a ring.

Row 1: 2ch, 12 dc into the ring, ss into the 1st dc. (12dc)

Row 2: 2ch, 2dc into each dc around, ss into the 1st dc. (24 dc)

Row 3: In DARK BLUE or BLACK: 24 sc into each dc around, ss in to the 1st sc. (24 sc) Finish off. Weave in the ends.

Dark Eye Part (make two):

In DARK BLUE or BLACK: 4ch, ss into the 4th ch from hook to make a ring.

Row 1: 2ch, 12 dc into the ring, ss into the 1st dc. (12dc). Finish off. Weave in the ends.

 

 Assembly:

With needle and thread (regular sewing size), sew the Dark Eye Part on to the White Eye Part.

Then, sew the Eyes onto the hat above the blue line.

With yarn needle and DARK BLUE or BLACK yarn, embroider the mouth. You can also crochet it with ss on top of the hat.

Braids on earflaps: take 2 strands of each yarn: YELLOW, BLUE, DARK BLUE (or BLACK) and cut them at the same length – about 18 inches. Put 3 strands of each color into each earflap half way. Braid the strands. Tie them at the same length. Cut off the rest.

Your easy minion hat is ready!
