Donation Project: Christmas 2015

In November and December 2015 we will tackle a Christmas Donation to Anchorage Community Mental Health Services that works with people who are severely mentally ill such as schizophrenia, highly traumatized, or homeless, and so on. Our deadline is set for December 15th, so we can donate our items for Christmas.

They need 12 hats for kids of different ages and 12 hats for adults.

Over the years our group has collected some yarn; for this project I have set aside nice soft brown variegated acrylic yarn. So yarn is completely provided by our group and we have a lot of hooks to work with as well. We will adorn girls hats with roses (we have learned to make them last time and I have saved several roses for this donation) and will put blue goggly eyes on boys’ hats aka monster eyes (we will invent those together or find them online).

This is the pattern I found on ravelry.com: Seamless Earflap Hat (for those who are on ravelry.com), if you are not signed up on their site, here is a downloadable pdf – Seamless_Earflap_Hat – with the permission of the author Lindsey Carr, for which we are very grateful. The hat’s pattern is calculated for 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, Toddler, Child, Teen/Adult sizes. We will try this pattern out and see if it will work well.

If you know of anyone who would be willing to work with us on this project (or independently), please, spread the word. We hope to have a good response to this project as usual.
